Terms of Service
Last updated:
1 - Who we are
- 1.1 - Company name. Kirigami Paper, Lda. (“Kirigami”, “we”, “us”).
- 1.2 - Registered office. Rua Pedro Nunes, Edifício C, Alto de São João, 3030-199 Coimbra, Portugal.
- 1.3 - VAT / NIPC. PT 518620867.
- 1.4 - Contact. For support, email support@kirigami.ai.
2 - What you get (and what you don’t)
- 2.1 - Submission. You may upload a manuscript in PDF, DOC, or DOCX format, up to 10 MB in size.
-
2.2 - Deliverables. For each analysis we provide a
report containing:
- a - a maturity score on content and structure;
- b - a list of identified issues; and
- c - actionable guidance to improve them.
-
2.3 - Exclusions. We do not:
- a - edit your text;
- b - run peer review;
- c - validate scientific claims; or
- d - provide legal, medical, or regulatory advice.
- 2.4 - Responsibility. Reports may contain errors. You remain solely responsible for your content and for any decisions you make using the outputs.
3 - Who can use Kirigami
- 3.1 - Minimum age. You must be at least 16 years old.
- 3.2 - Under 18. If you are under 18, you need parental or guardian permission, unless you already have legal capacity under local law.
- 3.3 - Lawful use. You may use Kirigami only where it is lawful and only after accepting these Terms.
4 - Your account
- 4.1 - Registration. Sign up with email and password or Google SSO.
- 4.2 - Security. You must keep your credentials secret and tell us immediately if you suspect a compromise.
- 4.3 - Personal use. Your account is personal and non-transferable.
5 - Plans, credits, payments (Paddle), renewals
- 5.1 - Model. Kirigami offers a free tier and paid subscription plans. Paid plans are billed on a recurring basis (monthly or annual) and renew automatically until you cancel. The plans available, their prices, and what each includes are shown on our pricing page and in the Paddle checkout at the time of purchase.
-
5.2 - Credits & usage metering.
- a - Analyses draw on the credit balance in your account. Your plan and any purchases add credits to that balance.
- b - Usage is metered by the number of tokens processed (the text sent to and generated by our analysis models, i.e. input plus output). Larger or more complex documents therefore consume more of your balance.
- c - When an analysis starts we place a temporary hold on part of your balance and settle the actual amount once the analysis completes; the hold is released on settlement.
- d - If an analysis fails for reasons attributable to us, it is not charged and any hold is released.
- 5.3 - Free tier & sign-up credit. New accounts receive a one-time free credit so you can try the Service. The free tier and its features and limits are provided as shown in your account and may be changed or withdrawn at our reasonable discretion.
- 5.4 - Balance & validity. Credits added by a subscription cycle remain available in your balance while your account and plan are active; they do not expire on a fixed date. If we introduce an expiry rule in the future, we will give you advance notice. Promotional credits may carry specific conditions or a shorter validity, as stated at the time of the offer.
- 5.5 - Renewals & cancellation. Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period through Paddle, at the then-current price for your plan. You can cancel at any time from your account; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period, and you keep access until then. We do not charge you again after a plan is cancelled.
- 5.6 - Iterations. Each new version or resubmission of a document is a new analysis and consumes credits, metered as described in 5.2.
- 5.7 - Delivery time. Analyses are typically delivered within 15 minutes after start, subject to reasonable system availability.
- 5.8 - Teams & seats. Team plans are priced per seat and managed under a single account or workspace, as specified at purchase. Seats are for the members you designate.
- 5.9 - Knowledge bases & search engine. Some plans include the possibility to create and share knowledge bases where users can upload documents. It is entirely the user's responsibility to have the right permissions to access, upload, and share the documents in a knowledge base. Kirigami accepts no liability for the documents uploaded by the user. Any document and query limits are those shown for your plan in your account and may vary by plan.
-
5.10 -
Start of service & withdrawal right (EU consumers).
- a - Before you click “Start analysis”, we ask for your express consent to begin the service immediately.
- b - If you give consent and the service begins, you may lose your 14-day right of withdrawal for the analysis that has started, under EU consumer law for digital services.
- c - Your consent is captured and logged (text shown, timestamp, IP, and document version).
- 5.11 - Refunds. We issue refunds in the cases described in our Refund Policy, such as a duplicate or erroneous charge, or a technical failure attributable to us that prevents delivery and is not resolved after support. Credits already consumed by a completed analysis are not refundable, except where the failure is attributable to us. Refund handling follows our Refund Policy.
- 5.12 - Prices & changes. Prices, plan compositions, and availability may change over time. Changes do not affect the current paid period you have already paid for; a changed price applies from your next renewal, and we will give notice where required by law.
- 5.13 - Taxes. Applicable taxes are shown and handled by Paddle at checkout.
-
5.14 -
Payment processing (Merchant of Record: Paddle).
- a - Payments are handled by our Merchant of Record, Paddle.com Market Limited (“Paddle”). Paddle issues receipts/invoices, calculates and collects taxes, and acts as our refunds/chargebacks agent.
- b - Payment methods & currencies appear in the Paddle checkout for your region (e.g., cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and local methods where available).
- c - Buyer terms. Your transaction is also governed by the Paddle Checkout Buyer Terms: https://www.paddle.com/legal/checkout-buyer-terms
- d - Payment & refunds support. Questions about payment, cancellation, or refunds? Contact Paddle Support: https://paddle.net/ or email support@kirigami.ai and we will coordinate with Paddle.
- e - For how Paddle handles your buyer data, see the Paddle Privacy Policy: https://www.paddle.com/legal/privacy.
6 - EU right of withdrawal (14 days)
EU consumers may withdraw from the purchase within 14 days without giving a reason. See
5.10 for the effect of requesting immediate start (you may lose this right once processing
begins).
If we fully performed within those 14 days after your express request to start, the right
of withdrawal does not apply to that analysis.
If performance was partial when you withdraw, we may retain a pro-rata amount for the part
already delivered.
How to exercise: email
support@kirigami.ai
with a clear statement. You may also use the EU Model Withdrawal Form.
7 - Acceptable Use

-
7.2 - You agree to:

- c - respect others’ rights, including intellectual property, privacy, confidentiality, and trade secrets;
- d - not bypass security, overload the Service, attempt reverse engineering, model extraction, or automated scraping;
- e - never use Kirigami to fabricate results, conceal misconduct, or circumvent journal/publisher rules;
- f - anonymise personal data in manuscripts wherever possible before uploading;
- g - not upload children’s data or special-category data (e.g., health, biometric) unless strictly necessary, anonymised, and explicitly authorised by us in writing with a valid legal basis.
- Enforcement. We may rate-limit, suspend, or terminate accounts to protect users and the Service. Where reasonable, we will inform you in advance, except in urgent or unlawful cases.
8 - Your content and IP
- 8.1 - Ownership. You keep all rights in the content you upload and in the reports we generate.
- 8.2 - Licence to Kirigami. You grant Kirigami a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, process, and analyse your content only to provide the Service and generate your report.
- 8.3 - Termination of licence. This licence ends when you delete the content or close your account.
- 8.4 - No training use. We do not use your content to train our models or any third-party models.
9 - AI transparency
- 9.1 - Assistive role. Kirigami is assistive. It is not a substitute for human judgment. Always review outputs before using them.
- 9.2 - Model providers. We may use third-party model providers to process your content.
- 9.3 - Training use. We do not use your manuscripts and data for model training. External providers are configured so that your manuscripts are not used for model training.
10 - Privacy and data protection
- 10.1 - Controller. Kirigami is the controller for personal data needed to run your account and provide support.
- 10.2 - Sub-processors. We work with carefully selected sub-processors (for example, cloud hosting, email, and payments via Paddle).
- 10.3 - Privacy Policy. For full details (data categories, lawful bases, your rights, international transfers, and our current sub-processors), see our Privacy Policy.
11 - Security
- 11.1 - Commitment. We understand your research is confidential and take your data security seriously.
-
11.2 - Technical measures. We use:
- a - encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256);
- b - least-privilege access controls and audit logs.
-
11.3 - Human access. Human access to your content is
not allowed, unless:
- a - you authorise it for support;
- b - there are strong indications of serious violations/unlawfulness; or
- c - we are legally required.
- 11.4 - Security incidents. If a significant security incident occurs, we will notify affected users without undue delay and, where applicable, notify authorities within 72 hours.
12 - Availability and changes
- 12.1 - Continuous improvement. We improve the Service constantly.
- 12.2 - Features. Features may change, be added, or be retired (including betas).
- 12.3 - Methods. Underlying methods may evolve; scores can vary across re-analyses.
- 12.4 - Disruption. We avoid disruptive changes unless there is a valid reason.
13 - Warranties and disclaimers
- 13.1 - No warranties. Kirigami is provided “as is” and “as available.”
- 13.2 - Accuracy. We do not guarantee that scores or guidance will be error-free, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose.
- 13.3 - Human review. Reports are assistive only. Human review and judgment are always essential before relying on outputs.
- 13.4 - Extent of disclaimers. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all other warranties, express or implied.
14 - Liability
-
14.1 - No exclusion of mandatory rights. Nothing in
these Terms limits liability for:
- a - fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- b - wilful misconduct or gross negligence;
- c - death or personal injury caused by negligence; or
- d - any consumer rights that cannot be waived under applicable law.
-
14.2 - Limitations. As far as the law allows, we are
not liable for:
- a - losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you accepted these Terms; or
- b - events beyond our reasonable control (provided we act reasonably to mitigate their effects).
15 - Ending your use & deletion
- 15.1 - Your choice. You may delete your content or close your account at any time.
- 15.2 - Deletion of content. When you delete content, we remove it from active systems immediately and purge backups within 30 days.
- 15.3 - Retained records. We keep only the records we are legally required to retain (for example, billing data or security logs). These records do not include your manuscript contents.
- 15.4 - Closing your account. To close your account you must first cancel any active paid subscription. When you close your account we archive your account records in line with our Privacy Policy and applicable retention periods, rather than deleting everything immediately; manuscript contents are removed as described in 15.2.
16 - Support, complaints, and dispute resolution
- 16.1 - Support. For help, contact us at support@kirigami.ai.
- 16.2 - ADR. You may use consumer alternative dispute resolution (ADR) entities. We do not adhere to any ADR body with binding effect.
- 16.3 - ODR. EU consumers may also use the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform.
17 - Governing law and venue
- 17.1 - Governing law. These Terms are governed by Portuguese law, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence.
18 - Changes to these Terms
- 18.1 - Notice of changes. If we make material changes, we will notify you in advance (by email and/or in-product), typically at least 14 days before they take effect.
- 18.2 - Your rights. If a change has a material adverse impact, you may stop using Kirigami before the effective date with no penalty. For paid subscriptions, our cancellation terms and Paddle/EU refund rules apply.
- 18.3 - Acceptance. Continuing to use Kirigami after the effective date means you accept the changes. We will not apply changes retroactively.
